Marine Safety Consultants, Inc. was founded 1980 by our Principal Surveyor, David C. DuBois who had recently served as a Coast Guard Officer aboard several Coast Guard Ships as well as serving two tours of duty as a Coast Guard Marine Inspector and Marine Casualty Investigator. The Company was established with a plan to provide marine surveying and safety consulting services to the commercial fishing fleet in the Port of New Bedford, MA, but quickly developed into a multi faceted surveying and accident investigation firm providing services to a wide array of customers including segments of the yacht and small craft industry, commercial shipping including tugs, barges, passenger vessels and the oil transport industry.
In 1984 recognizing a need for similar services in the Northern Regions of New England a branch office was established in Portland, Maine providing similar services to the Maritime Community in Maine and New Hampshire.
In the early 1990's a similar expansion took place with an office established on the Boston, MA waterfront and with the advent of the Third Harbor Tunnel/Big Dig Project the Company became recognized as a leader in the safety consulting business providing services to contractors utilizing numerous construction barges and similar equipment on the Big Dig Project.
Our surveyors and consultants are now employed worldwide on various projects. We currently operate out of three locations with our home office established in Fairhaven, MA, where it has been since 1980. We believe that our primary purpose is to assist the Maritime Community in providing services to enhance the safety of life and property at sea, thus we say "safety is our middle name"
